The Data Connects Us series, in partnership with the university's Office of Research, Innovation & Impact (RII) and the Institute for Computation & Data-Enabled Insight, highlights research initiatives led by University of Arizona scientists using data and computation was recently featured in Arizona Magazine.

The publication highlights the current advances and innovations made by UArizona scientists, such as the use of big data and computation to treat and prevent Alzheimer's disease, fortify endangered languages, and advances in optical sciences.

The feature shared the perspective of Barney Maccabe, the executive director at the Institute for Computation and Data-Enabled Insight. He spoke about how machine learning and data science are rapidly changing what industry can accomplish if workers have the right skills and tools.

Elliot Cheu, University of Arizona interim senior vice-president of research and innovation, was also quoted in the article. He said, "We know that with new technologies come important ethical questions and responsibilities that we must address as a society. Our forward-thinking researchers are tackling tough questions about the limitations and potential pitfalls of data and computation."
